Temple vs Navy Preview

The Navy Midshipmen host the Temple Owls this afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.  The Mids come into the game with a 2-3 record (1-1 AAC) looking to end their two game losing streak.  Temple enters the game with a 3-2 record (2-0 AAC) and are coming off a lopsided win last week against East Carolina, 49-6.  The 43 point differential is their largest in program history against an FBS opponent.

Navy and Temple have met 13 times prior to today's match up and the Owls hold a 7-6 advantage against the Midshipmen.  The last time Navy defeated Temple was in 2014, a 31-24 victory in Philadelphia.

Navy will recognize the 1963 team between the first and second quarters of this afternoon's game.  The 63 squad finished the season 9-2 and featured Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Roger Staubach, ranking as high as number two in the country.

The Mids enter the game looking for their first win since September 15, a 51-21 win over Lehigh.  The Mids are ranked number two in the country in rushing, averaging 310.4 yards per game.  Conversely, the Navy passing game is ranked 129 out of 130 FBS teams, averaging just 71.2 yards per game.

Malcolm Perry leads the Midshipmen in rushing with 584 yards and 6 TDs on the season.  Perry and Garret Lewis have combined for 339 passing yards and 2 TDs.  CJ Williams is the team leader in receptions with 6 grabs for 148 yards.  Hudson Sullivan and Taylor Heflin lead the defense in tackles with 30 and 29 respectively.

Temple is led by QB Anthony Russo who has completed 54.6% of his passes for 873 yards and 5 TDs.  The running game is led by Ryquell Armstead.  Armstead has 677 yards on the ground and 6 TDs.  Branden Mack has 22 catches and 257 yards along with 3 TDs.  Shaun Bradley leads the defense with 42 tackles, a sack, and an INT.

The Mids come into the game tied for second place in the AAC West Division with SMU and Tulane.  Temple is in a three-way tie for first place in the AAC East Division with UCF and Cincinnati.

We see the Mids bouncing back after two straight losses and getting back to .500 on the year.  The Mids win a tight one, 27-24.

We will be live blogging the game here on Mid-Atlantic Sports during the game.
